Advances in Glioma Surgery Using Awake Brain Mapping, and Individualized Fiber Tracking Signatures – Redefining “Maximal Safe Resection”

In this video, Director of the Penn Brain Tumor Center Steven Brem, MD, considers the new paradigm for safe maximal (supratotal) resection of glioblastoma in light of recent advances in brain mapping and tractography. Employing case studies from practice throughout his presentation, Dr. Brem reveals the complexity of glioblastoma and the sensitivity and extent of mapping technology via color fiber illustrations.  Also included: mapping as an element of surgical planning, cortical mapping, microscopic navigation, post-operative procedures, and the sub-pial surgical technique.
