Update in Thoracic Surgery

Doraid Jarrar, MD, provides an overview of surgery in the treatment of lung cancer. Beginning with the history of surgery in lung cancer, which often involved complete resection of the lung, Dr. Jarrar advances through the milestones in diagnostics and staging brought about by PET and CT scanning and endobronchial ultrasound, and into the later refinements of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and the "glowing tumor” technology now in use at Penn Medicine to define residual cancerous tissues.
