But when I found out how much of science behind medicine actually helped us to understand people's bodies and to make a real contribution to health, I was pretty much hooked. I'm dr heather Wachtel and I'm an endocrine surgeon here at Penn medicine. I really particularly love surgery because we have the option to make a real impact on people's health. And I perform surgeries on people who have tumors of the adrenals, the parathyroid and thyroid glands, particularly care for a few chromosomes item A paragon, glioma, adrenal cortical cancers. Also al dossari enemas, a cortisol producing tumors uh and androgen producing tumors. One of the only providers in the area who offers retro partney aske opic adrenal ectomy, which is a unique approach where we use laparoscopic techniques to remove adrenal tumors from a posterior approach, which has many benefits. They also offer laproscopic adrenal ectomy and trans abdominal open adrenal ectomy. These approaches really allow us to tailor our surgical procedures to the individual patients. I'm very personally invested in my patients and I think that there's an important trust relationship between a surgeon and a patient. I love being able to take people safely through what's otherwise an incredibly stressful and difficult experience. It's just unbelievably rewarding for me to be able to restore people to health. And I really keep dearly the trove of thank you notes and personal notes that I have from patients, which always remind me of the contributions that we make. Mhm. Published April 26, 2021 Created by
