High Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin and the Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction

Penn Presbyterian Medical Center’s Grand Rounds program welcomed Yader Sandoval, MD, Medical Director of the Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) Clinic at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Dr. Sandoval discussed the definition and basic analytical characteristics of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays, novel approaches to the diagnosis and risk-stratification of patients with suspected myocardial infarction, and the impact of implementing hs-cTn assays into clinical practice, including its impact on myocardial infarction diagnosis, and the potential advantages, challenges, and opportunities.
