I never feel like I leave the hospital feeling like it didn't do something positive for somebody that day and that really makes me very happy. I really think I love seeing my patients in clinic, you know, two weeks after their surgery when they're coming back and you know, I'm able to fix their problem and I was really able to help them. So I think for me that's the most rewarding part of my job. Hi, I'm dR jenny xiao. I'm a minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeon at penn medicine. Something about minimally invasive surgery. That's really exciting is all the new technological advances that were able to employ. So in particular robotic surgery is something I'm really excited about. I think it provides a lot of new, minimally invasive ways to take care of surgical problems that we were never able to do before. So, think advanced endoscopy is going to be especially important coming up. It provides incision list surgery for patients with certain salvageable motility disorders and using those techniques, patients have really great recovery and are able to get back on their feet much faster. I think sometimes, you know, when patients come to see us, they feel that surgery is maybe the thing that works the best for them. And as a surgeon, I love to operate. But I want to make sure that I'm gonna be fixing their problem and not making anything worse. I really believe in providing good information so patients can take ownership of their own health care and really participate in their own healthcare in terms of getting well. I really make sure I listen to my patients and really hear what their symptoms are to make the right diagnosis and to come up with the best surgical treatment for them. I think it's gonna be very different for each patient, even if they have very similar presenting symptoms. And I think it's important to listen and to keep in mind what's important to them and make sure that surgery is the right option for them. Published April 26, 2021 Created by
