I always gravitated towards science, Just felt like it was the right fit for me. I'd be able to help people while doing something that I enjoy. I'm Ingrid Richardson and I'm a urologic surgeon here at penn Medicine in the Department of Urology. I love the anatomy and the physiology of the organs in particular the kidney. It just comes easy to me and understanding how it all works. So I see men and women, I do a lot of talking to male patients about prostate cancer and doing their prostate biopsies and for women, I talked to them a lot about incontinence or leakage of urine. I always tell patients where the plumbers. So if you think of of your kidneys being a faucet, if there's a blockage, we go in and unblock it. If there's a leak we go in and clean and close it up within the university. A lot of the work in economics and health policy, also in just basic science research is a real benefit to us and to patients because we're on the cutting edge of neurology and science and urology and you're going to get the best, most evidence based care here. I love my job because of my patients. I hope that's not too cliche to say, but I do like meeting different people trying to help them. And one of the best feelings is when they come back to you and they say, wow, you know, I feel so much better and thank you very much. It is gratifying to really make a difference for someone no.
