I love following them in their journey through diagnosis and treatment. My name's Alina Matteo and I'm a breast surgeon in the department of surgery at Penn Medicine. My mother is the reason that I wanted to become a doctor. Um, she was and still is a very large inspiration to me. She cared very deeply about our patients and instilled in me those values so naturally gravitated into medicine because of her. I approached the office as almost like a classrooms. I really want to teach them. I really want them to be involved in their, in their diagnosis and their care. I draw a lot and I um, I'd use a lot of visuals and I write things down and I want them to leave with a firm plan and feel confident about their diagnosis and plan. We provide uh innovative uh surgical techniques, her breast cancer care. Um, we use minimal scar surgery. We use new technologies for locating cancers that are not palpable. We have amazing ancillary staff from our physical therapist to our nutritionist who are genetic counselors. Everybody is on their a game and here to provide the best care uh for the patient, families and loved ones are the support system for our patients. They're the ones a lot of times coming with them to appointments, coming with them to chemotherapy. The family members are the ones that I speak to after surgery. And to give them an update. I feel completely honored that they are allowing me to be a part of their lives in such a hard time in their life. The best part after surgery is calling them up and saying, hey, we have negative margins and your lymph nodes are negative. That's probably my favorite part. Yeah. Yeah. Mhm.
