Stem Cell Regeneration during LVAD Therapy

Cardiac surgeons and cardiologists at Penn Medicine are investigating the use of stem cells to augment the repair and regeneration of the heart at the time of LVAD implantation. J. Eduardo Rame, MD, explains why stem cells are thought to have the potential to initiate reverse remodeling of the heart muscle sufficient to permit the eventual removal of the LVAD.
