ECMO and other Devices in Acute Pulmonary Embolism

In this presentation, Sameer Khandhar, MD, evaluates the current armamentarium for the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism (PE), and the distinction between standard in-hospital administration of these interventions and their use in PE patients on EMCO therapy. Posing several scenarios for treatment, Dr. Khandar discusses ECMO+heparin, ECMO+catheter-directed thrombolysis, and ECMO+t-PA, as well as procedures for decannulation and screening for DVT and the coagulopathies.  Sameer Khandhar, MD, evaluates the current treatment of acute pulmonary embolism (PE), and their use in the context EMCO therapy.
