Advances in Traumatic Hemorrhage Management

In this presentation, Niels D Martin, MD, offers a comprehensive overview of the latest advances in emergent hemorrhage management. Beginning with blood-bank preparation for the bleeding patient, Dr. Martin explores trauma-induced coagulopathy; the prevention of blood loss by chemical and mechanical means; the equipment now available to estimate the extent and character of blood loss, including thromboelastography (TEG); and the potential of resuscitative measures, including thoracotomy and proactive resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA).
