Advanced MR Spectroscopy and Perfusion to Detect Metabolism and Response to Therapy in Gliomas

Suyash Mohan, MD, discusses the approaches to advanced MR spectroscopy taking place in the research setting at Penn Medicine. Illustrating his discussion with case images and high-resolution scans, Dr. Mohan examines the use at Penn of the 7 Tesla MRI scanner to detect IDH1 mutations in glioblastomas; whole brain 3-D Echo-Planar Spectroscopic Imaging (EPSI) to distinguish true progression from pseudoprogression; and MR perfusion to assess tumor metabolism and physiology as a determinant of prognosis and physiology in brain tumor patients.
